Great when it doesn't break

We purchased a HP laptop for daughter for high school and decided to get the low profile mouse so that it wouldn't take up much room.
It is 7mths old and the plastic surrounds of the dongle have broken and fallen off. I photographed and sent to HP and was told I had to contact a certain number at technical support, only all the menu options are not relevant to our case. Not happy. Just want this sorted.
